Mae Govannen. Welcome to Nandaromar! This page and its sisters deal with my fascination with Arda as depicted by J.R.R. Tolkien in his works and those of his son Christopher.. They deal also with a very dear pursuit of mine and that is reenacting a Dúnadan Ranger from the lost kingdom of Arnor..

What I like to do is, in effect, be a Ranger. No, I'm not from Middle Earth,, not a descendent of Numenorë, none of that. What I mean is that I like to go out into the forests and hills and practice the skills that a Ranger would have and need, rather a hobby of sorts...a reenactment of part of a work of fiction although not a LARP, not the SCA, nor any other such group. There are no made up orcs, no monsters, no magic spells, nothing save myself as I am in the here and now, testing myself, learning, and enjoying the speculations that accompany this. Regard it as a kind of hobby that allows a former Marine to keep some skills sharp, learn some new ones, and enjoy nature and an adored series of stories all in one go. Some might find that rather crazy, but then I've never worried over that to be honest.

So, I work on archery, hunting, fishing, herb identification, wildlife identification and tracking, weapons skills, making my own kit and clothing, camping and cooking at the most basic level. It helps my fitness, exercises my mind, entertains me, and gives me an outlet for stress. I should say up front that I do not carry items nor do things that violate the law or rules of places in my reenactment.

I wear pretty simple tunics, rather like T-tunics really although more fitted, simple trousers with buttons or drawstrings, a bodice of sorts for obvious reasons, high soft leather boots, a cloak, a pack, and of course carry quiver and things when I can. A staff too generally speaking.

I have a particular fondness for Númenorë and the Elf havens of Mithlond and Edhellond. I am a Ranger, but also am drawn to the sea; the seabird and ship imagery of
Númenorë, Elendil, and Gondor is very poweful with me. The Sea Kings are a very attractive thing to ponder.. No, I am not a sailor, although I have been to sea and have sailed. I suppose I'm a bit torn between the 2nd Age and the 3rd.

Bound up in all of this is also my philosophical path of Druidry; living with the natural world, within the rhythms of life and as part of it all, not above it or outside it.

May the Vala bless and keep you.
